Today we learned that Game Group Plc. has entered administration. Game has several stores across Essex, including one in Chelmsford City. The Chelmsford branch is in the centre of the High Chelmer shopping precinct. It holds a prime position opposite Starbucks.

Today the Game website is essentially shut down. There is a not from the administrators stating:

MJA Jervis and SD Maddison have been appointed as Joint Administrators of The GAME Group plc, Game Stores Group Limited, Gameplay (GB) Limited, Game (Stores) Limited, Games Station Limited, Game (Retail) Limited and Gamestation Limited on 26 March 2012, to manage their affairs, business and property as their agents and without personal liability.

We are currently reviewing and processing orders placed on this website.

MJA Jervis and SD Maddison are licensed in the United Kingdom to act as insolvency practitioners by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to be back up and running very soon.

There are rumours from The City that RBS may be making a bid to save Game from closure. However, with a rapidly changing computer games industry that is seeing a shift from consoles and PCs to mobile and social media platforms, the traditional model of purchasing games appears to be coming to an end.

As well as the Chelmsford store Game also have / had stores at the Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Colchester, Town Square in Basildon, Brentwood High Street, Braintree, Clacton-on-Sea and Harlow. Many jobs are obviously threatened by this news.
