Essex has long been famed for its variety of fishing locations, and an upcoming TV show will feature in two of them.

Any fishing enthusiasts who live in Essex know that it’s a great place to take part in the pastime. Now though, the rest of the nation is set to find out all about the county’s fishing credentials. Robson Green recently paid a visit to the areas of Clacton and Maldon, filming a new show for ITV about British the seaside. So before it airs later on in the year, let’s take a look at what makes Essex such a great place to take up fishing. We are not 100% sure what the show will feature – he was seen with mods and rockers – but let’s look at the fishing while we wait to learn more!

Clacton & Maldon

So what drew the makers of the show to Clacton and Maldon? Well, they are two of Essex’s most popular fishing spots. Clacton Pier attracts many fishing enthusiasts, particularly during the summer months. It’s considered one of the prime sea fishing spots along the Tendring coastline. Over in Maldon, the local angling society has access to 14 miles of river and canal, along with 17 stillwaters. In these two relatively small areas, there’s a great variety of fishing experiences to be had – which was no doubt a huge part of their appeal to ITV bosses.

All Over Essex

Essex has a very diverse landscape and as a result, many different fishing experiences are to be had. As well as Clacton and Maldon, there are many fantastic fishing spots to be found throughout the county. Claverhambury Lakes in Waltham Abbey are two lakes approximately four acres in size. These lakes are a great area for carp fishing, as well as roach, tench and bream. Rayne Lodge in Braintree is another great location, and is made up of three lakes. It’s also got toilet facilities and a snack bar – making it a great place to spend the day. The Moathosue in Basildon is a must for anyone wanting to catch some rudd, perch and Crucian carp. Carp fishing is very popular in Essex.

Shops & support

It’s not just the scenery though – Essex fisherfolk are supported by a great network of businesses and resources. There are a huge number of fishing networks in the county, where people can come together and share tips, arrange meet-ups and just talk about their love of fishing. There are also many places in Essex to pick up some essential fishing gear, including some great fishing tackle shops. It’s this network of fellow fishers and great shops that makes Essex not only a great place to fish, but a place that welcomes and allows all people to take part, no matter their experience or skill level.

Go Fish!

While we’re all going to have to wait a while to see Clacton and Maldon on the small screen, there’s plenty of opportunity to discover what makes Essex such a special place for fishing. With the weather warming up, there’s never been a better time to go down to the water and see if you can catch something. If you’ve never fished before – don’t worry! With so many fellow fishers to talk to and great shops to pick up everything you need, Essex is the perfect place to get started. So take your pick – this is a county that really does have it all.
