Soon High Streets across Essex will be switching on their Christmas Lights to mark the official start to the Christmas shopping season.
Many of the events include festive stalls, farmers markets, carol singing as well as celebrities and live music. Start the festive season and support your local shops!
If you want to see big celebrities you will need to head to Westfield or Lakeside.
Basildon Christmas Switch On
Basildon’s big switch on of its Christmas lights on Saturday, 15th November. Activities start from 11am at Eastgate Shopping Centre with a range of festive fun for the whole family throughout the day. Olympic Medalist Max Whitlock, Basildon Mayor Cllr Mo Larkin and the cast of this year’s Cinderella panto will turn on the Christmas lights, assisted by popular children’s characters Peppa Pig and George at 6pm.
Lighting Up Brentwood
Lighting Up Brentwood, Saturday 29 November 2014, 12pm-6pm, in and around Brentwood High Street. Lights will be switched on by the Mayor at 5pm. There will be food and drink stalls, Christmas gifts, entertainment, family activities and street performers.
Chelmsford 2014 Christmas Lights switch on
On Sunday November 30 at 4.45pm, the Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Bob Villa, cast members from Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre’s Snow White will switch on Chelmsford’s Christmas lights.
There will be music and entertainment from Heart Radio, Father Christmas, face painting by Kiddi Caru and festive food and drink, from 3pm.
Canvey Island Christmas Event
On Saturday 29th November 2014 there is Christmas Festive Fun including entertainment hosted by Heart Essex Radio, real reindeer’s, children’s games, funfair, stalls, Christmas lights switch on and much more! Time: 12 noon to 5pm.
Chelmsford Moulsham Street Lights Switch-On
Moulsham Street has decided not to hold a switch-on event in 2014. There will be lights as usual.
Clacton Xmas Lights
Dream 100 is supporting this year’s Clacton Christmas Lights switch-on on Saturday 6th December at 5pm.
Colchester Christmas Lights
On Sunday 30th Nov 2014 the town’s spectacular new display in the High Street will be switched on. As well as the centre piece decorations spanning Head Street, High Street and Crouch Street, lights will be simultaneously turned on in Lion Walk (at 4.30pm) and Culver Square (at 4.30pm),
creating a magical effect in the town’s main shopping areas. The fun starts at 2.40pm.
Halstead Christmas Lights
Saturday 29th November 2014 the Mayor of Halstead, Cllr David Hume, with nominated children from each of the three Halstead Primary Schools. Switch on to take place in the Halstead Public Gardens, Trinity Street, Halstead CO9 1JD at 4.30pm
Harlow Christmas Lights
Harlow lights switch on on Saturday 22nd November. Watch the stunning lights go on at 5.30pm, enjoy carols, choirs, festive acts, food and much more!
Hockley Christmas Lights
Hockley lights will be lit on Saturday 22nd November 3pm TO 6pm in Spa Road, Hockley. The event starts at 4pm and goes on until late. The lights switch on at around 5.30pm with a firework display to follow. There will be craft stalls, entertainment and fairground rides and Santa’s grotto, hog roast.
Hullbridge Christmas Lights
On Saturday 6th December 2014. 1pm tp 6pm. Family Event, with activities, many stalls including refreshments / craft / toys/ xmas presents plus lots of entertainment/competitions for all ages including visiting Santa. Switch on at 17.45 by a Special Guest.
Lakeside Christmas Launch
On Saturday 22nd November Lakeside will launch the Christmas season with a FREE Santa’s grotto, a winter wonderland plus a parade with Christmas fairies, elves and Santa. The fun starts at 11am and goes on until 4pm.
There will be plenty of fun FREE family activity all around the centre with Festive Face painting, Mulled Wine and Roast Chestnuts, Real Reindeer and a Giant Snow Globe.
Leigh-on-Sea Christmas Lights Switch On
28th November 2014 at 17:00. A Christmas celebration with a procession, fairground, stalls and entertainers. The famous Leigh Triangle – The Broadway, Broadway West and Rectory Grove will echo to the sound of music and carols. Plus FESTIVE CRAFT FAYRE and fun for the kids.
Loughton Town Centre Lights
Friday 28 November join the celebrations in Loughton Broadway from 4pm with festive entertainment including the switching on of the lights followed by a special Santa carriage ride

The High Street lights switch on, 27TH NOVEMBER 2014, commencing 4.15pm-6.30pm. Heart FM, theatre, roasted chestnuts, Father Christmas , rides and stalls.
Romford Christmas Light Switch on
Thursday 13 November, 4.30pm to 6.30pm, Romford Market Place. Entertainment will include appearances at intervals by Little Charley Bear and performances by James Smith and Lydia Lucy. Switch on and fireworks at 6.30pm.

Lighting Up Shenfield, 30 November 2014, 2pm-5pm, in and around Hutton Road, Shenfield. Lights will be switched on by the Mayor at 4.30pm. There will be food and drink stalls, Christmas gifts, entertainment, family activities and street performers.

The Rochford Christmas Lights Event will take place at Rochford Square on Sunday 30 November 2014.
South Woodham Ferrers
Christmas Fayre and Show Saturday 15 November 2.00pm to 6.30pm. The Town Mayor turning on the new Christmas Lights display at 5pm.
Christmas Fayre, including Christmas market stalls, music and entertainment from local acts in a huge variety show. The town’s seasonal lights will once again be turned on during the afternoon, and the Trinity Church will be holding their popular Christmas Bazaar.
Southend High Street Christmas Spectacular & Lights Switch On
On Saturday 15th November, Southend-on-Sea Town Centre will be transformed into a winter wonderland. Victoria Circus, between 2.30pm – 6.15pm. Entertainment from Britains Got Talent’s ‘Sweet Chix’ and ‘Youth Creation’. Plus Christmas Farmers & Craft Market all day, various entertainment, and fireworks.
