Children and families in Southend can enjoy a variety of fun, low-cost activities during the Easter holidays at the new NHS South East Essex Sure Start Children’s Centres in West Leigh and Southchurch.
Two exciting outdoors Easter egg hunts will begin the programme of events and activities.
West Leigh Children’s Centre, Elm Road
- Date: Wednesday 7 April between
- Timings: 1 and 3 pm
The activity will begin at the centre and the hunt itself will take place in the nearby Leigh Library Gardens where children will search for brightly coloured eggs which they can later exchange for chocolate ones at the Children’s Centre.
A second Easter egg hunt will take place in Bournes Green Park on Wednesday 14 April between 10 am and 12 pm, opposite at the temporary premises for the new Hamstel Children and Family Centre at Whittingham Avenue Methodist Church on Whittingham Avenue, Southend.
A traditional Easter Bonnet Parade is also planned at the below locations:

West Leigh Children’s Centre

- Timings: between 1 and 3 pm
Children and families can bring along their own bonnets or make them at the centres where plenty of craft materials will be available. Children will have the opportunity to parade in their hats and prizes will be awarded to the most imaginative creations.
Next, Family Creative Fun will provide a variety of fun, creative and age-appropriate arts and crafts and messy play activities for children aged 0 -11 years and their families. This activity will take place at:

To finish off the programme of activities, a Family Fun Day is planned to take place at the below locations:

Whittingham Avenue Methodist Church

- Timings: between 10 am and 12 pm.
There will be an Easter-themed arts and crafts activity, a Blendavenda Bike which families can use to make healthy smoothies, and lots more. Our own masterchef will also be in attendance, demonstrating nutritious and affordable recipes to make at home.
All events and activities are designed to be relaxed and informal while promoting family exercise and the inclusion of treats as part of a balanced lifestyle and diet, as well as building positive relations between family members and local communities, encouraging creativity and a sense of achievement.
A small donation will apply to all events. All family members and carers are welcome to accompany their children to the events and activities at
each Children’s Centre.
NHS Sure Start Children’s Centres are a new service provided by staff within the Children’s Directorate on behalf of South East Essex Community Healthcare.
