Health Awareness Roadshow Coming To Southend – 5 June

Health professionals from NHS South East Essex will be taking part in a Health Awareness road-show which will take place at the top end of Southend High Street (outside Odeon cinema) on Saturday 5 June 10am – 4pm.

The aim of the road-show is to promote healthier lifestyles, with a particular emphasis on healthy eating, exercise and positive mental health. The Health Improvement service from NHS South East Essex will be part in the road-show, with a variety of professionals available from services including stop smoking, sexual health and mental health. Local health trainers who provide free one to one support and information to adults who want to improve their health and prevent future ill-health, will also be there.

The day will be MC’d by Sadie Nine from BBC Essex and a programme of demos will fill the day including the below activities. Residents are invited to come down to find out more and join in.

  • 10:00 Event opens with Sadie Nine from BBC Essex
  • 10:30 Yoga Dhama – Yoga demonstrations
  • 11:15 Belly Dancing
  • 12:45 Streetdancing by Kickz Southend United
  • 13:30 Thameside Wheelchair Dance group
  • 16:00 Event closes

Paul Anderson, Head of Health Improvement from NHS South East Essex said: “The Health Awareness road-show is a great opportunity to find out more about a multitude of local NHS health services. Whether you want to find out more about how to quit smoking or perhaps have concerns about the wellbeing of a friend, partner or relative, there will be a range of professionals at the road-show who can help and advise.”

The road-shows are part of a series being staged in towns around the East of England Other partners include the DofH, and Sport England. The next event is taking place in Chelmsford High Street on Thursday the 5th of August from 10-4.

The Health Awareness Roadshows are co-ordinated by the Community Service Volunteers organisation with funding from the Big Lottery Fund.
