New Dress Making Courses In Colchester

Franklins dress making

Franklins dress makingWhen it comes to fabric do you like to upcycle or buy new? Wherever your fabric stash comes from be sure to bring it along to Franklins in Colchester and turn it into something special. The St Botolph’s Street store is encouraging dress makers of all abilities to come along and try out their new dress making classes, and the best part is, they are all about what YOU want to make.

Franklins offer all budding dress makers a workshop space with enough sewing machines for 1 per student, and 2 overlockers are also available, so there’s no waiting your turn. The classroom environment on these courses means you get the best of both worlds, you get to work at your own pace, and have the benefit of help and advice from your tutor if you need it.

Pat Lucking is the expert taking the helm at these classes, and she will initially consult with you to discuss your ability level and chosen design. Then you can take advantage of the facilities to complete your design over the weeks at your own pace. Having a tutor on hand throughout the course means you’ll always have help with any alterations needed, problems that occur, or any tweaks to help your project fit like a glove.

There are plenty of opportunities to get creative at Franklins as the Colchester store has these classes available on a Tuesday and a Thursday in six week blocks throughout the year. Each session runs from 10-4pm, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to progress your projects. See their events page for class times and booking information, or call 01206 563955.

Maybe this is the time to make a new party dress, some clothes for your grandchildren, or a shirt for your husband. Maybe you’ll get the dressmaking bug and join several of these dressmaking groups, or perhaps take one of the other sewing and craft courses available in store. Don’t forget to show off your new makes when you’re done!

  1. It’s a shame the classes are on during working hours, I would love to learn how to make clothes, but I work full time!
