After 18 years of closure under the Puritans the English theatres re-opened in 1660 with the Restoration of the monarchy. The restored theatre was controversial from the beginning for the sexual content and biting wit of its productions.
William Wycherley’s ‘The Country Wife’ (1675), is a classic Restoration comedy in three acts and ten scenes. It involves intertwined plots that include love, lust, deception, disguise, venereal disease, impotence and a very large piece of bone china.
Performed by All Sing all Talk Theatre Company, directed by Steve Livermore.
