A Weekend of Essex Regattas

Four Essex coastal towns are hosting their annual regattas over the weekend. Brightlingsea, Rowhedge, Manningtree and Heybridge will all be celebrating their nautical heritage with sailing and festivals.

In Brightlingsea there will be hundreds of stalls along to waterfront plus music and other entertainments. There will be a boat show and regatta which will be running on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend (14th and 15th July, from 10am to 5pm. The boat show is at the Brightlingsea Boatyear (Shipyeard Estate, CO7 0AR) and the Regatta is being held between Shipyard Estate and Bateman’s Tower Cafe on Promenade Way. The Rowhedge regatta starts today (Satuday 7th July) and is help in the seaside village of Rowhedge just north of Brightlingsea, close to Wivenhoe. The boat races start at 2pm. See their website for more information www.rowhedge-regatta.co.uk.

In Manningtree there will be races from 1.30pm and then celebrations and fireworks at 9.30pm. There are also beach sports planned for the Sunday.

In Heybridge there will be dinghy and rowing races plus some fun, traditional events such as the greasy pole!
