Week Long Train Strikes to Cripple Essex Rail

September 8, 2009

It seems that more strike action is imminent, affecting the main commuting line into London, plus other routes. No doubt there will be a skeleton service as before, but we can expect to see chaos again as the rail workers strike once again over pay. This time, rather than proposing a one day strike, the ASLEF Union is planning to strike for a whole week, starting on Monday 21st September.

Strikes by train drivers working for National Express East Anglia (NXEA) which were suspended last month will begin again after a ballot conducted by the train drivers’ union ASLEF revealed that its 800 members in the company did not accept the proposed revised deal.

Further days of industrial action will be announced in the near future, but the first date for the resumed strikes will be 21 September. The action will continue for the entire week.” ASLEF Union spokesperson.
