Essex Fishing Lakes and Rivers

Fishing in Chelmsford

A guy fishing on a bankEssex has some great fishing spots. While big lake fishing opportunities are relatively few and far between, there are many excellent smaller lakes, rivers, canals and reservoirs where you can fish.

The River Chelmer and River Cam are good spots for course fishing and Hanningfield Reservoir is a fantastic location for boat fishing. If you wish to try your hand at fly fishing then get in touch with Hanningfield Fly Fishing.

  1. Cemex are selling their business. At the moment we do not know how this will affect the Cemex locations in Stanford Le Hope, Colchester and Utling and other locations in Essex.

All Cemex venues are up for sale. All tickets issued by CEMEX for this season will be honoured, however, we do not know what will happen to the locations next year.

  2. Today the Colchester Angling Preservation Society closed down Layer Pit, a carp lake in the village of Layer de la Haye, after hundreds of fish died. Around 200 fish died from a bacterial infection and a reduction of oxygen in the lake caused by over-stocking of fish.

The lake may be closed for 3 weeks, according to Wayne Clarke from the Colchester Angling Society. There is no way to treat the lake.

  3. Hi just to let you know that we have taken over the fishing at Ricketts Mere in ulting, it is being run as a limited syndicate information can be obtained from the email address or find us on facebook.
    Cheers Andy
