Southend YMCA is challenging you (if you are 18 or over) to join their Sleep Easy event and sleep outside overnight at their Ambleside Drive site on Saturday March 2nd 2013, from 7pm until 7am the following morning. In the morning you will be awarded with your free bacon, or egg, roll.

There are several charities and organisations which help the elderly. Last year we took a look at Contact the Elderly, who organise vital social meet-ups for elderly people. This year we shall look at Age UK, which is a new charity created from the merger of Age Concern and Help the Aged. Age UK have an Essex arm, Age UK Essex.

On 29th January 2012 why not support St Clare Hospice at their 5km sponsored dog walk which starts and finishes at the hospice in Hastingwood.

The walk starts at 10.30am. After the walk round the local Hastingwood countryside, there will be treats and even a medal for the pooches… soup and rolls will be provided for the owners!

According to charity Contact the Elderly, 850,000 elderly people across the UK live alone. Many elderly people will not see anyone at all over the Christmas period while many also have no human contact for months at a time.

As the population of Essex and the rest of the UK continues to rise, more and more people are living alone.

Take part and get a team together! Wear your most outrageous heels or funky slippers! We just want every girl and women (and man!) at this event to help raise funds for the hospice at the same time of you having a great night out on 28th January 2012!
