Athletics Clubs in Essex

Here are a list of athletics clubs with running tracks and fields in Essex. There are also many running clubs in Essex who do not have a track but meet in public venues for regular road runs. If you or children you know were inspired by the track and field athletics then get in touch with your local athletics club and start training.

Basildon Athletics Club

Basildon has a modern athletics club on Cranes Farm Road in Basildon. It was founded in 1955 (a legacy of the London 1948 Games?).

Braintree & District AC

Braintree and District athletics club was formed in 1977 but its current track dates from 1990. They provide event specific training throughout the week in the summer (evenings), including sprint sessions. endurance, discus and shot, javelin and long jump. They have an indoor sports hall for winter training.

Brentwood Beagles Athletics Club

We now have over 400 athletes successfully competing across a range of cross country, road, and track and field event groups and have athletes who in the last year have represented both England and Team GB and won national championships and UK lead times/records.

Chelmsford Athletic Club

Chelmsford Athletics Clubs trains twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday from 7.00 pm onwards. They offer a full coaching programme and compete at all levels in Track & Field, Road Races, and Cross Countrys. Monthly induction programmes, details available from the club on training nights.

Colchester & Tendring AC

In the heart of Colchester. Training programmes for juniors and seniors. Compete in regional events. Training on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm.

Harlow Athletic Club

Success and fun for everyone“. Minimum age for members is 8 years. Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.30 – 8.30 pm at Mark Hall Sports Centre.

Harlow Running Club are also based in the same place so if you are interesting in endurance running this may be a better option.

Havering Mayesbrook AC

Athletics training for over 10 year-olds. Training takes place at Hornchurch Stadium and also Mayesbrook Park Arena.

Loughton AC

For runners, throwers, jumpers and walkers . With a Summer Training Programme, regular competitions. Training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Beginners on Tuesdays.

Newham & Essex Beagles AC

Not officially in Essex, but close for many residents. Plus it is where Mo Farah and Christine Ohuruogu train. They have an excellent competition record. Training for over 10 year-olds.

Training on Monday and Wednesday evening and Sunday morning.

Southend-on-Sea AC

They train at the Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre which also has the Southend Swimming & Diving Centre close by. Training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Woodford Green A.C.

Training throughout the week with beginners running/jogging, middle/long distance running, sprinting, field events. For athletes over 11 years old. Beginners / newcomers should go along on Tuesday evening between 6pm and 8pm.
