Jacks Famous Supplies on St. Nicholas Street in Colchester has announced that it may be forced to close its doors for one final time. Jack’s has launched a new marketing initiative in the hope that it will attract some new customers. If this fails, it may become the latest victim of the credit crunch and global economic slowdown.
Jacks Famous Supplies was opened in 1960 and has been a popular shop for many years. It sells a combination on household goods, camping supplies, hardware, tools, clothes and shoes, plus work wear.
In January 2012 the owner, Dave Williams, appealed for help, and new customers. While sales did pick up for a while Jacks is struggling again and the run up to Christmas is likely to be make or break time.
Dave Buxton, Dave William’s son-in-law, has recently embraced the Internet and have a website, Facebook page, Google+ page and Twitter profile, @JacksSupplies. They reply to all customer enquiries on the Facebook Page including quick stock checks.

Jacks can still be found on Saint Nicholas Street, next door to the Learning Shop and opposite the Co-op Department Store.

Incidentally, in the current photo of Jacks on the Google page they are showing snow sledges outside – these always sell out fast as soon as the snow comes, so if you are looking to buy some snow sledged for the kids, Jacks could be the place to shop!
