Following months of assessment and stringent judging, Essex Auto Group has been named the winner of the Green Apple Awards 2012 for Car Dealerships.
At a ceremony held at The Wintergarden in Canary Wharf, Essex Auto Group received official recognition for the implementation of a strategy that significantly reduced energy consumption across its dealerships in south-east England.
“Being more energy efficient has been a keen goal for our business for some time,” said Philip Maskell, chairman of Essex Auto Group. “Delivering both a reduction in our carbon footprint and over £80,000 in savings has been a fantastic result.”
Supported by Car Dealer Magazine and founded by The Green Organisation, the Green Apple Awards were launched in 1994 to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice. Having been approached by Purchase Direct with its energy management programme, Essex Auto Group was able to reduce consumption by 15-20%. Each dealership was fully audited in order to identify opportunities to implement low cost investment measures.
“The support provided by Purchase Direct has enabled us to keep working on energy reduction without losing focus of selling and servicing cars,” adds Maskell. “The team of energy management specialists highlights where we are wasting energy and quickly supports our on-site energy champions to fix the problems. We couldn’t have achieved the savings – nor maintain them – without their support.”
Richard Collins, event organiser, said: “Showrooms are traditionally large and airy places with lots of glass, and many are architecturally a horror story. We decided to reward the ones that have made the biggest effort to reduce any negative eco impact – and it’s my pleasure to reward the dealerships and car manufacturers today.”
