Extension to Southend Airport Terminal
Last week Southend Airport announced plans to extend and update their terminal that will enable 300 new jobs. Work is expected to start in November 2012. The first phase of the expansion is hoped to be completed in May 2013, with the final phase of the 3 phase project being completed by Christmas 2013.
The new terminal is designed to speed up the flow of passengers. Hand-luggage-only passengers should be able board a train within 15 minutes of leaving an aircraft. Security checks should take no more than 4 minutes.
The new terminal will be 90 metres longer than the present building, increasing the number of check in desks, baggage drop off points and security points. There will also be improvements to the departure lounge with new retail and catering facilities throughout the terminal.
