EasyJet To Increase Flights at Southend Airport

easyJet is to start flying a 4th plane from Southend Airport. They only started flying from Southend in March 2012 but this has proved to be a very successful move. easyJet will provides flights on another Airbus A319 from June 2013.

Fly to Berlin and Krakow from Essex

It will fly to Europe and service Berlin and Krakow. This new route to Berlin is hoped to bolster business travel from Southend Airport with 6 flights a week. The first flight is expected to depart on the 17th of June 2013. There are likely to be 4 flights to Krakow a week starting at the same time.

Extension to Southend Airport Terminal

Last week Southend Airport announced plans to extend and update their terminal that will enable 300 new jobs. Work is expected to start in November 2012. The first phase of the expansion is hoped to be completed in May 2013, with the final phase of the 3 phase project being completed by Christmas 2013.

The new terminal is designed to speed up the flow of passengers. Hand-luggage-only passengers should be able board a train within 15 minutes of leaving an aircraft. Security checks should take no more than 4 minutes.

The new terminal will be 90 metres longer than the present building, increasing the number of check in desks, baggage drop off points and security points. There will also be improvements to the departure lounge with new retail and catering facilities throughout the terminal.

Stobart Group Improvements

We reported in 2009 that Eddie Stobart was going to start flying from Southend. The Stobart Group are the current owners of Southend Airport, and since taking over the management they have invested over £100 million. One of the biggest improvements is the new train station that links Southend Airport to London Liverpool street.

Air Lingus has three daily return services between London Southend and Dublin, where travellers are able to take advantage of transatlantic connections to New York, Boston, Chicago and Orlando.

Aer Lingus also operates up to 10 flights per week from London Southend to Waterford in Ireland.

Essex is certainly becoming an international transport hub. Along with Southend we have Stansted and London City Airport is very close too. Harwich is now a major sea port with ferries and cruise liners departing daily.
