Halstead has won the Anglia in Bloom award, beating stiff competition from Maldon, Sudbury, Chatteris, Downham Market and Woodbridge. This group was for towns with a population of between 6001 and 12000 residents. The awards ceremony was held today in the Charter Hall in Colchester.

Halstead are also finalists in the 2012 RHS Britain In Bloom competition. The RHS Britain In Bloom campaign is one of the largest horticultural campaigns in Europe. More than 1,000 villages, towns and cities take part each year. As well as being judged on horticultural achievement, settlements are also judged on their achievements in environmental responsibility and community participation.
Nigel Bishop and Sue Wood, two of the Britain in Bloom judges, visited Hampstead at the end of July 2012. Both judges were very impressed with Halstead’s displays, Nigel Bishop said “We are as impressed as we were last year“.
The Britain In Bloom awards are announced on the 25th September 2012.
Halstead in Bloom
Halstead in Bloom was formed in 1999 won the Best Commercial Area award the following year. They won silver in 2003, and between 2004 and 2008 Halstead won the Silver Gilt in the Anglia in Bloom competition. In 2009 they won Best Town in the Anglia in Bloom Competition, and was a finalist in the Britain in Bloom competition 2010.
