Next week marks the middle of the horse racing season and with it an exciting five days of action as Glorious Goodwood, officially Qatar Goodwood Festival, gets underway.
Goodwood hosts some of the most prestigious races, attracting champion jockeys and trainers and fine thoroughbreds. Set in the beautiful Sussex countryside it is a fantastic festival to experience, but for those of us living in Essex it can be just that little too far afield.
A day at the races is one of the finest British traditions to experience as it can be a casual affair or an excuse to get decked out and dolled up, enjoy good food and drink as well as the excitement of checking the current odds for the meeting with Betway. Essex folk are no strangers to a great day out in posh frocks and fitted suits and we are blessed with some of the most stunning scenery in southern England so it’s a good job we have some top quality racecourses right on our doorsteps.
For those wanting to experience the racing in elegant attire you’ll be pleased to know that everything you could ever want is available at Chelmsford City Racecourse – formerly Great Leighs.
This historic site closed in 2008 but after a £25m renovation it opened its doors again in 2015 and last month hosted its second successful Ladies’ Day. It is also the UK’s first racecourse capable of hosting night races on turf so it’s perfect for all our locals who can’t get the day off.
The next evening race will be held in early August so keep an eye on Betway for the horsing racing odds – they cover all the races in the UK and Ireland. There’s plenty going on at Chelmsford City Racecourse over the next few months aside from racing including a family fun day where the kids go free so it’s a great excuse to see the facilities for yourself before going back for a day at the races.
Chelmsford City Racecourse is the perfect day out for Essex folk as it’s so easy to get to. No matter where you live, from Wickford to Shoeburyness, Laindon to Colchester, Thurrock to Saffron Waldon, Chelmsford City Racecourse is just a short drive away.
With low-priced tickets, quality locally-sourced food and attractive new facilities Chelmsford City Racecourse is a gem of a day out in our county.
