Southend Seniors Get Active

Nearly 70 enthusiastic over 50s recently took part in activity taster sessions such as line dancing, seated exercise and circuit training at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre.

The event took place as part of the Active Seniors project, running as a partnership between Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Parkwood Leisure, Southend United and NHS South Essex.

Lee Watson, Health Improvement Practitioner Specialist at NHS South Essex said, “This event has been a great opportunity for visitors to try new activities. The Active Senior project aims to provide a range of sport and health related sessions across different locations in Southend.

This is a great way to socialise and have fun whilst keeping healthy. The benefits of living an active lifestyle are huge – from increased emotional health and wellbeing to prevention of heart disease, but before you start any new exercise routine check with your GP to make sure it’s suitable and safe for you, particularly if you have a medical condition.”

The next event is set to take place at Shoebury on 10 January 2012 from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon. For more information, email: [email protected] or call 01702 215612.
